Aadhaar and PAN cards are two of the most important identification cards used in India today. However, they are actually different in that Aardhaar is primarily geared for the establishment of national identity with respect to the provision of certain welfare programs. On the other hand, the PAN is more specific in its purpose – to make sure that everyone who is supposed to be paying taxes will be doing so in full accordance with the law. That being said, if you have an Aadhaar, it is quite easy to link it to your PAN Card. Here is how you can link your PAN Card with your Aadhaar in 3 simple steps.
Step 1: Visit the e-Filing Portal of the Income Tax Department
Log onto the official e-Filing portal of the Indian government’s Income Tax Department. Under the Services section of the Home Page, look for “Link Aadhaar” and click on it. This will open up a new web page.
Step 2: Fill in the Required Information
From the Home Page of the e-Filing portal of the ITD, you will be brought to a new web page. Here you will be asked to furnish your 10-digit Permanent Account Number, your 12-digit Aadhaar number, and the printed name on your Aadhaar Card. Make sure to type in the appropriate spaces the information being requested. It is also crucial to write your name in exactly the same way it was printed on your Aadhaar Card. Make sure other details such as your gender, date of birth, and others are exactly the same as what you have on your Aadhaar Card. For security purposes, you will be required to enter the Captcha code displayed on the screen. Once this has been confirmed, click on Submit.
Step 3: Wait for Confirmation
Allow a few seconds for the Unique Identification Authority of India to verify the data entered. If everything is in order, you will receive a message saying your Aadhaar-PAN linking has been completed successfully. If, however, there is a minor mismatch in the information that you provide, a One-Time Password will be sent by UDAI to your mobile number or registered email address with Aadhaar. If you entered a completely different name, your Aadhaar-PAN linking will fail followed with a message to change the registered name in either the PAN or the Aadhaar database.
Linking your PAN Card with Aadhaar is a pretty straightforward process. It is only imperative that you write exactly the same information found on your Aadhaar Card to prevent any failures in linking.
